Sunday Runs
Sunday Runs are back for 2011
Commence: Sunday May 1st
Where: Morialta national Park (Stradbroke road car park)
Meet at: 8 am for an 8.15 am start
Three levels of run on offer as well a walk group
 
With winter fast approaching nothing beats a long Sunday morning run in the hills. This year there will be two preparations.
  • The first builds up to the Gold coast marathon
  • The second for those wishing to focus on an October race or who have planned a later start to the season.
I am sure this will all sort itself out after a few weeks as it did last year. The plan is for A, B and C run groups and a walk group for partners. I haven’t listed off directions for the runs this year as it is a little confusing, and we should have enough people who have done these runs before to lead the way.
 
The A, B&C groups all start off together. Please note times listed below are guides only. Make sure you talk amongst your group to know who is turning off early or not.
 
The plan is for an A, B and C leader to marshal each of groups. The run is basically “follow the leader,” with the leaders turning back every 10 or so minutes, or when they come to a fork in the road, to catch up with the back markers. It is important you nominate which group you will be in before the start and that the leader is aware of the possible back markers.
 
The downhills can be extremely damaging so take things very easy to start with.  
 
Most likely I will be at home looking after the kids and Verity will be running in the first preparation so it is important that we have leaders assigned to each of the three groups. The courses will be mostly the same as last year.

  • Morialta meet in car park on Stradbroke road i.e. don’t drive into the national park
  • Waterfall Gully Good life gym car park corner of Glynburn and Greenhill road  
  • Nth Adelaide Bakery 44 O’Connell Street

The races listed are the ones the Lakers have designated as the key races for our members to target this year.

Rides
If you don’t wish to run and are looking for a ride companion then the Sunday rides will now be starting from the same location as the runs. Depending on the weather the ride loop will either go for 2-3 hours in the hills or down to the coast. It is up to the individuals who show up to work out the best routes
